You’re welcome to Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coast, Portrush, and to Magherabuoy House, where we provide a wide range of accommodation, conferencing, banqueting and dining facilities. The restored and extended period property is located in its’ own grounds, with extensive free parking, just off the A29 on the outskirts of Portrush. The Hotel offers 55 ensuite guest bedrooms, including accommodation to suit couples, families and people with mobility difficulties.
Magherabuoy House Hotel boasts numerous on-site dining options, including Leona’s Tea Room, Dawson’s Bistro, Restaurant and our new outdoor dining area, Dickie’s Shack & Deck.
We are fortnuate to be situated on Lonely Planet’s ‘must visit’ Causeway Coastal route. The Hotel is just a few miles from Royal Portush Golf Club, and less than thirty minutes drive from the Giant’s Causeway World Heritage Site, Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge, the Dark Hedges and Old Bushmills distillery. The seaside town of Portrush is home to beautiful golden beaches, stunning coastal walks and a host of quality restaurants. A twenty minute stroll will take you into town, a few pounds and a taxi will return you to the comfort of your Magherabuoy bedroom.Our History
Magherabuoy House was built by a Liverpudlian doctor following the design of Sir Charles Lanyon. Lanyon was the leading Irish architect of his time. He also designed Queen’s University, Crumlin Road Gaol, Portrush Town Hall. He influenced the design of many churches and notable public buildings here.
During the years 1934-47, Magherabuoy House was the home of Sir Richard Dawson Bates. Bates was Minister for Home Affairs in the old Northern Ireland government at Stormont. He was a close ally of the Prime Minister and a controversial figure in his own right. He often used Magherabuoy House to entertain foreign dignitaries.
